David Bergin SC
David is Managing Partner of the firm and qualified as a Solicitor in 1976 having completed his BCL Honours Degree in UCD.
He has specialised in the area of Family Law since 1980 and has been involved in many of the leading cases in this area over the years.
He has written many articles for family law journals and is a co-author of “The Law of Divorce in Ireland” published by Jordans Publishers. In addition, he is the joint editor of “Irish Family Legislation Handbook” also published by Jordans and was the author of the Law Society’s professional course manuals for many years.
David is a consultant to the Law Society on Family Law, having been a member of the Council of the Law Society for a number of years. He is a certified family law mediator and has also been a regular contributor on TV and radio programmes discussing family law issues.
He is a former chairperson of the Law Society Family Law & Civil Legal Aid Committee, former President of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and a member of the Irish Family Lawyers Association. He is also a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been admitted to the roll of solicitors in England and Wales.
In October 2024 David was granted his Patents of Precendence by the Government, allowing him to use the title, Senior Counsel; a mark of his expertise and huge contribution to Family Law in Ireland.
David has a great interest in all sports but particularly rugby. He was President of UCD Rugby Football Club during the season 2007/08 and continues to be involved in rugby at all levels.
